For 90+ years, SCS has been providing an excellent Catholic education in Old Metairie.
SCS is a large community, but we pride ourselves on our family community and small classroom sizes.
Many SCS Alumni send their children and grandchildren to SCS.
Faith Life
All students in grades 1 - 7 attend weekly Mass. Parents are welcomed to attend Mass with students.
Early Childhood (PK3, PK4, and K) students have a separate prayer service. Parents are welcomed to attend the early childhood prayer services.
The school day begins and ends with prayer.
All classes begin with prayer.
Middle School students participate in annual grade level retreats.
Grades PK3 - 7th Grade participate in grade level service projects
SCS hosts several school-wide service projects including Coats for Kids, Pennies for Patients, St. Michael Bead Drive, Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive, etc.
Faculty and Staff
All teachers are certified in their particular grade level or subject matter.
There are full-time assistants in PK3 - 2nd grade.
There are two full-time guidance counselors.
There are two full-time reading specials for grades K - 3rd grade.
SCS has a great teacher - student ratio.
Classes range between 16 - 27 depending on the grade level. The lower the grade level, the lower the ration. For example, PK3 classes have between 16 - 19 students. Middle School classes have been 25 - 27 students.
Technology
All classrooms from PK4 to 7th grade are equipped with smartboards.
All middle school students have Chromebooks.
There are Wifi Access Points throughout the campus.
Student Life
SCS offers many different extracurricular activities: sports, cub scouts, girl scouts, band, choir, dance, cheerleading, robotics, academic games, etc.
SCS has over 20 competitive sports teams including flag football, lacrosse, soccer, cross country, swimming, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and tennis.
SCS has a Middle School Student Council.
SCS has an excellent drama program. Grade level plays start in first grade.
Academic Excellence
SCS offers an advanced honors curriculum in 6th and 7th grade. Honors students take both Latin and Spanish.
Spanish is offered 3x per week to Middle School and weekly to Lower Elementary School and Early Childhood.
SCS students have above average ACT scores.
Students attend activity classes such as PE, music, library, computer, and Spanish.
CampusSecurity
Key card system - all faculty and staff have an electronic key card to open doors around campus.
All visitors must be buzzed in at the School Office and sign in at the front desk. Visitors must leave their keys or drivers license in order to obtain a visitor key card to gain access to the different buildings on campus.
Campus is monitored with high definition security cameras.
