Overview

Students continue to build on skills taught in previous grades so as to refine their mathematical thinking for use in the real world. Manipulative materials and technology are integrated into instruction as students learn to be problem solvers and critical thinkers.

Focus

• Fifth Grade: Students build a strong foundation of whole-number, fraction, and decimal operations in order to pave the way for higher-order mathematical thinking. 

• Sixth Grade: Students utilize their foundation as they move on to concepts that require application of previously mastered skills such as ratios, proportions, and equations. 

• Seventh Grade: Students continue to develop pre-algebra skills such as linear equations, multi-step equations, and operations with intergers and rational numbers as they prepare for a high school math curriculum.
